Lorikeets are amazingly colourful and they love perching in colourful locations...a perfect subject for nature photography!

Only a few minutes into Serengeti National Park and we encountered this adult cheetah soaking up the sun on a rock just metres from the road.

This osprey had eaten every other part of the fish but had some work to do swallowing that large tail. He got there in the end...

There is nothing quite like seeing the magnificent wildlife of Africa and Etosha delivered some amazing encounters.

This young Barn Owl was waiting for the adults to return to the tree with food. From time to time it would peek out of its hiding spot providing very brief photo opportunities. Taken at Mapleton Springs B&B, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland.

The Eastern Great Egret is a permanent resident at Lake Baroon, Maleny. Very close to my home and has been the subject of some great photos...it really knows how to pose!

Taken at Lake Baroon near my hometown of Maleny. Kookaburras hang about near the picnic area hoping to find some leftovers, and know how to strike a pose for the photographer.

We found this large male lion resting; with a carcass nearby we guessed it was trying to sleep off a big dinner...until we came along and woke it up.

Big cats in the wild - an experience like no other!

Photographed at Bremer Bay on one of my photography tours, this was my first proper sighting of a male Splendid Fairy Wren - and he posed beautifully!

A beautiful Spring image. This was my first chance to photograph cygnets and the results speak for themselves. Gorgeous subjects that posed perfectly for a family portrait.

Before I left for my African photography tours I could never have imagined just how many elephants we would see. But always in different places, different settings, with different behaviours...I could never get tired of photographing them and cannot wait to return.

An up close and personal encounter with a huge herd of elephants on the Ngorongoro Concession was a highlight of my 2019 African photography tour.

For all the years I owned my gallery, this was consistently my most popular kookaburra photo. I don't know if he had any formal modelling training but he definitely knew how to strike a pose.

Juvenile black swans are about as cute as they come and I was thrilled with this unexpected photo opportunity.

These timid little Meerkats are not nearly so fierce as they appear...but make up any story you like!

Dwarf Tree Frogs (A.K.A. Eastern Sedge Frogs) are tiny, usually no more than 3cm long, and have a habit of hiding out in unusual places. I found this specimen in the garden during a coffee break at one of my photography workshops - the students were in for a special treat that day!

It helps to know where the ospreys live and feed. After a good meal they will head down to the nearest pool of water to wash up.

At other times in our travels we saw rhinos...way in the distance and out of reach of our cameras. Then at Etosha we had all the time in the world to watch this rhino at close quarters.

On a recent photography tour I hosted in Tanzania, highlight of our visit to Ngorongoro Crater was the sight of a lone elephant peacefully grazing on the plain, with the magnificent backdrop of the crater wall behind.

This well-fed and happy wombat kept his head down while all my companions were taking photos. Then just after they all left for dinner, he looked up and gave me a smile!

Taken just around the corner from my home at Witta near Maleny (Queensland). The looming storm was an impressive sight and I knew just the spot to line up what turned out to be one of my best landscape photos ever.

Travelling in the Top End it seems like Whistling Kites are constant companions - they are everywhere! And they provide some great photo opportunities, this one captured just in the instant of taking flight.

Taken at the Mount Coot Tha Botanical Gardens in Brisbane, this waterlily has just about the most perfect blend of colours nature has to offer.

Perched on a rock overlooking the ocean, this Nankeen Kestrel could not have picked a better spot to pose for a photo.

The world's largest kingfisher is an iconic symbol of the Australian bush.

Most of the time it's nice just to get your animal in focus and well lit. But every now and then you capture one of those special moments that really make you smile.
