An experimental ink sketch of a great music icon. For this piece I sketched out the line work using ink and a bamboo stick to give it a scratchy line. I then soaked the piece in water and painted on ink to create tone but also letting it bleed naturally. Finally I used a white pen to add some highlights

Much of my work begins with either an original photograph or an original drawing. This image is part of a series I created starting with a coloured pencil drawing and then further manipulated using digital software. The final result makes the artwork look like an ink wash or water colour painting.

If you've ever been to Oatman, AZ, this will look very familiar!

I've had a set of coloured inks that I've not had the chance to use on any projects yet, so just as an experiment I tested them out with this piece of Edgar Allan Poe and I'm pretty impressed with the results. To paint this, I used clear water to begin with painting out the figure, and then I would drop Scarlet ink and then blue ink onto the wet areas using a straw. The result is this amazing mixture of colours of reds, blues and purples, purple being the colour I was aiming for as a reference to The Raven and furthermore Baltimore.
