Ribblehead Viaduct Mugs

The Ribblehead Viaduct - a spectacular example of Victorian engineering crossing Batty Moss in the Ribble Valley, North Yorkshire carrying the Settle-Carlisle line. The amazing construction was designed by the Midland Railway's Chief Engineer, John Sydney Crossley. The last stone was laid by the end of 1874, and on 1st May 1876 the whole line opened for passenger traffic. The construction used a workforce of 2300 men of which over 100 unfortunately lost their lives.

The viaduct, built by the Midland Railway, is 28 miles (45 km) north-west of Skipton and 26 miles (42 km) south-east of Kendal.

The Ribblehead Viaduct also known as the Batty Moss Viaduct in the Ribble Valley of North Yorkshire, carries the Settle - Carlisle railway over Batty Moss at Ribblehead. Ribblehead viaduct is probably the most famous of the many feats of Victorian engineering along the stunning Settle to Carlisle railway line. Its iconic location in the middle of the Three Peaks makes it a popular photo stop. There are a number of laybys, a tea wagon and the popular Station Inn.
