This pattern depicts the fossils of the famous Burgess Shale. Many of the remarkable lifeforms of the Cambrian explosion are depicted, including: opabinia, wiwaxia, pikaia, and hallucigenia.

Newnes, an abandoned oil shale mining site of the Wolgan Valley, is located in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia. The site that was operational in the early 20th century is now partly surrounded by Wollemi National Park. The settlement was originally built by the Commonwealth Oil Corporation. I feel strongly about the negative consequences of "Fracking" and the recent Dark side of Science, comp, spurred me to complete a sketch I had done a while ago. What the Frack, hopefully gets the message across and it also gave me a chance to draw some more teeth. :)

The sea washed rock formation at Hartland Quay, Devon, United Kingdom. The wet rock formation bringing out the colours in the shale and mudstone with it giving the effect of gold leaf in the rocks.

This is an experimental, duotone illustration of Anomalocaris, among the first of the great apex predators to swim the Earth's oceans. We don't know how well duotone illustrations will perform in this medium, but hopefully it will look great! Please contact us if you have any questions or comments.
