An instantly recognizable lighthouse on the North East Coast of England, Saint Mary's lighthouse is situated on St. Mary's Island at Whitley Bay. St. Mary's Lighthouse, along with the keeper's cottages on the Island, was built in 1898 on the site of an 11th Century monastic chapel. It became a Grade II listed building in 2012 and the tidal island of St. Mary's is now a popular visitor attraction in Whitley Bay.

The remains of the chapel were destroyed when the lighthouse and cottages on St. Mary's Island were built in 1898. St.Mary's Lighthouse is now a grade II listed building and open to visitors at low tide when the causeway to the island can be crossed.

St. Mary's Lighthouse was built in 1898 in the site of an 11th Century monastic chapel. It was a fully operational lighthouse until 1984. It is located on St. Mary's Island which is separated from the mainland near Whitley Bay at high tide.

St Mary's Church, Brownsea Island Number of views as of 18th March 2016 = 1000. Completed in 1854, St Mary's church on Brownsea Island (near Poole, Dorset, England) was funded by William Waugh, a former Colonel in the British Army, who purchased the island a couple of years earlier for £13,000. Waugh was also responsible for building a pottery works on the island which once employed more than 200 people, and for the construction of the now abandoned village of Maryland on the western shores of the island. The church was named for Waugh's wife Mary. Brownsea Island has been owned and managed by the National Trust since 1962 and is open to visitors during the months of April to September. St Mary's however is owned by the Church of England...
