Aldeburgh Tapestries

Aldeburgh Number of views as of 25th June 2017 = 600. Aldeburgh is a small seaside town in the county of Suffolk on the east coast of England. Fishing boats are launched from the shingle beach and the catch is sold from huts on the sea front (right of shot). This shot shows the War Memorial and its attractive gardens, whilst the building with two tall chimneys is the ancient Moot Hall where the Town Council still convenes. Date: 29th July 2013.

Inspired by an original ink sketch I created of Aldeburgh Beach in Suffolk, England. It reminds me of big skies, shingle, waves and fish'n'chips.

The beach at Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast. A fishing boat is drawn up on the shingle with its paraphernalia scattered around. Aldeburgh, facing the North Sea, was once the home of the composer Benjamin Britten and now hosts a world famous international music festival at nearby Snape Maltings. The town, now a pleasant seaside resort was once a major port and shipbuilding centre until the River Alde eventually silted up, becoming impassable to larger ships. This was originally a large canvas painting I created of Aldeburgh Beach in Suffolk. The painting is called "Off Season".

*Snape Maltings* Number of views as of 2nd April 2018 = 460. The original purpose of Snape Maltings (in the village of Snape on the River Alde, near Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England) was the malting of barley used in the brewing of beer. Local barley (once malted), was sent from here to London and exported to mainland Europe. Today the Maltings house an arts complex, a collection of shops, galleries, restaurants, apartments and a Concert Hall, which is one of the main venues for the annual Aldeburgh Festival of music. The Alde Estuary is known for wildlife and river trips. Date: 29th July 2013.

I wanted to go and see the sculture that I had read about that was on the beach in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Standing on the beach and fifteen feet high you would think it hard to miss but it was so misty that we could not see it. We decided to park the car and walk along the beach and thus we found it! I thought this mist added to the image.
