Southwold is a beautiful seaside town in Suffolk, on the east coast of England. Date: 1st August 2013

Home on the Broads Number of views as of 24th January 2018 = 930. A desirable residence on the Broads near Wroxham, Norfolk. The Broads are a network of (mostly navigable) rivers and lakes in the English counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. The Broads and surrounding land is a specially protected area, managed in a similar way to UK National Parks. The total area is 303 square kilometres (117 square miles), most of which is in Norfolk, with over 200 kilometres (120 miles) of navigable waterways. There are seven rivers and 63 broads, the majority less than 4 metres deep. Thirteen broads are generally open to navigation, with a further three having navigable channels. Date: 11th August 2010. *Snape Maltings* Number of views as of 2nd April 2018 = 460. The original purpose of Snape Maltings (in the village of Snape on the River Alde, near Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England) was the malting of barley used in the brewing of beer. Local barley (once malted), was sent from here to London and exported to mainland Europe. Today the Maltings house an arts complex, a collection of shops, galleries, restaurants, apartments and a Concert Hall, which is one of the main venues for the annual Aldeburgh Festival of music. The Alde Estuary is known for wildlife and river trips. Date: 29th July 2013.

Beach huts.

The tide mill on the River Deben quayside at Woodbridge, Suffolk. This is the 'newest' of the mills that have stood on this site having been built in the 1600s. The earliest recorded mill here was in 1170. During th middle ages it was run by the local Augustinian priory but at the time of the Dissolution it passed into the hands of Henry VIII. It operated until 1957 sfter which it became derelict. However, following subsequent restoration it was re-opened in 1973.

A Thames sailing barge at the quayside in Woodbridge, Suffolk. These barges were once a common sight along the Thames estuary and the east coast of England. Being flat-bottomed and with a shallow draught they could negotiate the shallower areas of the Thames, its estuary and the tributary rivers. Woodbridge is a picturesque town on the River Deben in Suffolk. The quay area is full of photographic opportunities and in the background here is the old weatherboarded tide mill. Boats at rest, moored for the evening at the quayside at Blakeney, North Norfolk. Such a peaceful scene but until the early 1900s when the harbour silted up,this was a busy port. In medival times it was noted for spices and oriental cloth and, apparently, acts of piracy! Now it is a peaceful harbour for small boats.The marshes round about are a haven for wildlife. It is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the North Norfolk Heritage Coast.

An impressionistic view of the quayside at Woodbridge, Suffolk. Woodbridge lies about 9 miles from the Suffolk coast on the tidal stretch of the River Deben - used to power the tide mill on the quay. The town was once known for shipbuilding, rope-making and sail-making - and apparently some of Drake's warships were built here! Now we find boats of all shapes and sizes tied up on the quayside. The Deben flows from on to Felixtowe where it eventually meets the North Sea.

A digital sketch from my original photograph of a couple of wooden boats drawn up on a shingle beach. Both are ready and waiting to be loaded up with gear for their next fishing trip along the Suffolk coastline.
