Saint Michael

St Michael the Archangel becomes it in the Old Testament and has been part of the Christian tradition since the early days. In Catholic scriptures and traditions, he acts as the protector of the church and opponent of Satan. In John's New Testament revelation, Michael appears in an eschatological context as the conqueror of Satan, whom he falls down to earth. Dominum Deum tuum adorabis, et illi soli servies (You shall worship the Lord your God and serve him alone!). This Bible quote from the Gospels speaks Michael to Satan on the first scroll. Non serviam 'I will not serve' is a phrase that is attributed to satan in church history, which is why it is under the dragon.

My interpretation of a Byzantine icon of Saint Michael the Archangel. He is the patron saint of police officers, the military, sailors, paramedics, grocers and many other vocations, places and causes. He is one of four archangels found in both Jewish and Christian scriptures.

One of the first battles where the unit first was combat christened is the Battle of Saint-Mihiel during the World War I. Saint Michael leads God's armies against Satan's forces where during the war in heaven he defeats Satan. Saint Michael is specifically referred to as "the Archangel Michael"
