Featured on RB Low Key themed Homepage 23 November 09 - woohoo!! These seed pods have such beautiful colour and texture... think I'd like to do some more shots once the pod opens, I think the seeds are pretty cool, too. PIty I only have a couple of canna plants in my garden... ( :

This design was inspired by the giant Harakeke Flax plants and their mighty black seeds in Auckland, New Zealand.

Lotus pods in ink

Photographed in mid-winter is this close-up image of a cluster of milkweed seed pods, resembling a bird in flight. Illuminated by both direct & reflected sunlight from newly fallen snow, the feathery, gossamer-stranded seeds still cling to their graceful dried pods.

IIce on orange bittersweet. It's easy to spot the bright colour of Bittersweet on a snowy winter day American Bittersweet is a perennial vine native to central and eastern North America. The flowers are plain and uninteresting compared to the berries that follow. As the flowers fade, orange-yellow capsules appear. In late fall the capsules open to show bright red berries inside. The berries and orange seed capsules remain on the plant well into winter, adding colour to snow covered landscapes. The crimson berry-like fruits are toxic to us mammals but highly sought after by birds. Here the red berries have been eaten, leaving the orange capsules on the vine. Copyright: Robert Alsop images.

This artwork comes from a paper drawing I made some time ago with inks and paint, which I have recently painstakingly edited, adding digital touches for more definition. I really like the finished result.
