Crocheting has been a popular hobby for many years and is something your grandmother probably did. This image of a lovely doily and ball of crochet thread on a vintage magazine brings a touch of history to the present day.
In the staging area before the Memorial Parade, a girl in one of the high school bands leaned her saxophone against a brick wall and took a picture of it with her cell phone. I guess she's fond of her saxophone. While she was photographing it, I took a picture of it also.

This vintage phonograph, dated about the 1880s, used a horn to collect sound which channeled to a stylus. This stylus pressed against either a tinfoil drum or a wax cylinder to record the sound.

One of the most important members of the band are the drummers who establish the beat for the other musicians. These drummers in their bright blue uniforms and plumed hats add excitement to the parade as they march along with their rhythm.
Pipe bands consist of both bagpipers and drummers. Just before the July 4th parade started as I was trying to find a spot to stand, I saw this drummer practicing in the shade. Notice the extra drumstick in his stocking.
I saw these baritone horn players lined up and practicing just before the July 4th parade. Notice the reflection of the musician in the side of the horn.
Everyone loves a carnival midway with all its excitement, color, games and rides. This little girl is certainly enjoying herself as she climbs onto her horse on the merry-go-round.

This carousel horse was part of the outside row of horses. These are the most heavily decorated because the outside row is the one easily seen by the spectators but only on the side facing the public.
