The Reichstag, Berlin, Germany. This building is now the seat of the Federal German Parliament, and it attracts masses of visitors who are facinated by the combination of an old building and a modern glass dome. British Architect, Sir Norman Foster, has created a stunning new tourist attraction with the introduction of two spiral ramps, each 230, (250 yards) long, with a constant slope of 8 degrees, which lead you round a tower of 360 mirrors, which direct daylight into the plenary chamber below. The DZ Bank building on Pariser Platz, designed by the American architect Frank Gehry, is one of Germany`s & Berlin's most spectacular new office buildings. This being, first and foremost, a bank, the facade - a cascading mixture of sand-coloured stone and swooning glass, graced by massive chrome and glass doors - subtly disguises what lies beyond. The interior courtyard of the building shows Gehry's trademark: a massive, titanium, morphing form. In this case a towering, curvaceous fish that houses a central conference space captures motion and movement in the building - locally nicknamed "The Banked Whale !" As the building is owned by the DZ Bank, visitors aren't allowed in - you'll have to restrict your enthusiasm and stick to ...

Hexham Abbey is a place of Christian worship dedicated to St Andrew and located in the town of Hexham, Northumberland, in northeast England. Since the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1537, the Abbey has been the parish church of Hexham. There has been a church on the site for over 1300 years since Etheldreda, Queen of Northumbria made a grant of lands to Wilfrid, Bishop of York c.674. Of Wilfrid's Benedictine abbey, which was constructed almost entirely of material salvaged from nearby Roman ruins, the Saxon crypt still remains; as does a frith stool, a 7th/8th century cathedra or throne.[1] For a little while around that time it was the seat of a bishopric. In the year 875 Halfdene (Halfdan Ragnarsson) the Dane ravaged the whole o...

A view of the Taj Mahal, Agra, India, from the Red Fort. Legend has it that Shah Jahan built the beautiful Taj Mahal for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Unlike his grandfather, Shah Jahan tended to have buildings made from white marble, often inlaid with gold or semi-precious gems. At the end of his life, Shah Jahan was deposed and restrained by his son, Aurangzeb, in the fort. It is rumoured that Shah Jahan died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with a view of the Taj Mahal.
