Kite flying around the drum tower. The Drum Tower in the centre of Xi`an, China, was constructed in 1380, on the edge of the Muslim Quarter, for centuries the home of Xi`an`s Hui minority, currently numbering around 30,000. The temples at Khajuraho, India, were built during the Chandella dynasty, which reached its apogee between 950 and 1050. Only about 20 temples remain; they fall into three distinct groups and belong to two different religions – Hinduism and Jainism. They strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture. The Temple of Kandariya is decorated with a profusion of sculptures that are among the greatest masterpieces of Indian art. The complex of Khajuraho represents a unique artistic creation, as much for its highly original architecture as for the sculpted décor of a surprising quality made up of a mythological repertory of numerous scenes of amusements of which not the least known are the scenes, susceptible to various interpreta...

The Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb is a hillclimb in Shelsley Walsh, Worcestershire, England, organised by the Midland Automobile Club (MAC). It is one of the oldest motorsport events in the world, and is in fact the oldest to have been staged continuously (wartime excepted) on its original course, first having been run in 1905. On that first occasion, the course was 992 yards (907 m) in length, but in 1907 it was standardised at 1000 yards (914 m), the length it remains today. Shelsley Walsh is a notably steep course by the standards of today's hillclimbs. It rises 328 feet (100 m) during its length, for an average gradient of 1 in 9.14 (10.9%), with the steepest section being as much as 1 in 6.24 (16%). This makes Shelsley a hill o...

A detail of one of the magnificent stained glass windows, in the modern Coventry Cathedral, England, built following the destruction of the old Cathedral in World War 2. This is one of the Nave windows. The ten windows were designed and executed by a team of artists led by Lawrence Stanley Lee. He, Geoffrey Clarke and Keith New designed three windows each, with the tenth being a collaboration. Lawrence Lee's were the two red windows (opposite sides of the nave) and the gold window on the right as you look towards the front of the cathedral (and the old cathedral). You can read more about these windows here. Camera: Canon EOS 20D !http://ih0.redbubble.net/work.7018479.3.lp,375x360,b,s,Q292ZW50cnkgR2xhc3M%3D.jpg! !http://ih3.redbu...

Berrington Hall is a country house located about 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Leominster, Herefordshire, England. During the 20th century it was the seat of the Cawley family. It is a neoclassical country house building which was designed by Henry Holland in 1778-81 for Thomas Harley. It has a somewhat austere exterior, but the interiors are subtle and delicate. Berrington Hall is home to the Elmar Digby furniture collection, paintings by, amongst others, Thomas Luny (1759–1837) and the Charles Paget Wade costume collection from Snowshill which can be viewed by appointment. The 'below stairs' areas and servants' quarters which are open to the public include a Victorian laundry and Georgian dairy. Berrington has been in the care of the Na...
